Razaq Bamidele

The State Working Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State has felicitated with all democracy lovers, party leaders and faithful on the occasion of the country’s Democracy Day.

The celebration this year, according to the party, is unique in that it is the first time, in two decades, that the country would recognise and celebrate June 12 as Democracy Day.

The chapter also commended President Muhammadu Buhari, for his courage to right the wrongs of decades; and national leader of APC, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, for his contributions to this reality.

“It is a political development that helps to remind Nigerians of the sacrifices, including paying the supreme price, made by many patriotic Nigerians who perceived democracy as the surest way to development.

“Today, democracy has restored citizens’ fundamental rights, freedom of expression; activated deep and sincere efforts for unprecedented development of infrastructures across the land.

“We further perceive the periodic conduct of elections, and supervisory roles of relevant institutions, that have been further fortified, as sources of hope for a better Nigeria,” the chapter declared .

The chapter therefore urged its members and indeed all Nigerians, to remain vigilant, and continually support every genuine effort aimed at deepening our democracy.

” The sustainability of our democracy depends on collaboration of, and partnership among Nigerians,” it stated.

The party also expresse hope that the country would continue to work towards promoting the dignity and fundamental human rights, social justice, and enhancement of economic and social development of all Nigerians; while not neglecting security of lives and property.

“We urge residents of the state to adhere to the guidelines, spelt out by relevant authorities, to contain the spread of COVID-19 spread. The State Government would not relax its concerns, particularly to the vulnerable class of the society, to give more palliatives in due course,” the party concluded in a statement signed by the state APC Publicity Secretary, Alex Kalejare and made available to the press.
