The 4th Congress of a pro-Labour Civil Society movement, the Joint Action Front (JAF), comes up Saturday and Sunday (September 4-5), in Lagos, according to a statement from the office of its Secretary, Comrade Abiodun Aremu.
The Opening Session of the Congress, according to the statement is themed: The Necessity of an Alternative Political Agenda to Reconstruct Nigeria, and the Keynotes are on: Defining the Ideological Context of the Labour and Civil Society Coalition: Wither LASCO?
The statement further disclosed that the Keynote interventions are to be delivered by the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), the President-General of the Trade Union Congress (TUC) and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) who are partners of the alliance, with the Joint Action Front (JAF) that crystallized into the Labour and Civil Society Coalition (LASCO) in 2003.
The partnership and the Coalition, the statement revealed, led various struggles at some points, against the neoliberal policies of privatization, deregulation, reversal of hike in fuel prices and sales of public assets, and campaigns for national minimum living wage, among other resistance struggle and defence of the rights of the working people and oppressed poor masses.
The Congress, which would be held at the Textile Union Labour House along Acme road, Off Agidingbi, Ogba-Ikeja, the statement added would comprise delegates from JAF affiliates, observers and guests.
