Jada Pinkett: I once had an unhealthy relationship to porn

Jada Pinkett Smith, US actress, has opened up about a time in her life when she once had an “unhealthy relationship to porn.”

In Monday’s episode of Red Table Talk,” her Facebook watch series, she said pornography gives people false expectations in sexual relationships.

The show is co-anchored by Adrienne Banfield-Norris, her mother and Willow Smith, her daughter.

Pinkett said she was addicted to porn at a time when she was trying to practice abstinence, stressing that women are sometimes wrongly portrayed in erotica.

“I had an unhealthy relationship to porn at a time in my life when I was trying to practice abstinence. Pornography gives you false expectations as far as sexual interaction is (concerned),” Pinkett said.

“It suggests that a woman should always be willing and ready. She should be able to have sex however he wants, in any position, anywhere. You should enjoy it no matter what. And it shouldn’t just be a thing of joy but exhilarating, ecstatic”.

She further noted that while pornographic videos can help some women get over their inhibition on sex, it could ruin the relationship between romantic partners.

“I do have a lot of women who said porn has helped them break free from inhibitions…(but) I think a lot of people consider porn as cheating because it’s taking attention away off partners,” Pinkett said.

“There are a lot of porn addicts who lost interest in their actual partners because the expectation is so different.”

Corroborating this, Banfield-Norris said although porn was beneficial to her at a time, the sex scenes are ‘unnatural’.

Pinkett is married to Will Smith, US actor and media personality. The couple are blessed with two children together Jaden Smith and Willow Smith who are also Hollywood’s movie stars.
