It’s better to give to people who can’t thank you, says Ifeoma Anieze -Corona, Rotary club president

Ifeoma is an entrepreneur and presently the Executive Director of Finance and Administration of Reji Roma Limited, a mechanical construction company. The native of Onicha Olona, Delta State, when asked to join the Lekki Phase 1 Rotarians in 2016, Anieze-Corona didn’t need any convincing. “I was already sold,” she says. She describes what it’s like to participate in the good works done by the Rotary Club. A member of the service organisation since 2015, she was recently installed as president of the Rotary Club of Lekki Phase 1 club for a term that began October 2021 and runs through October of 2022. A change maker club president, as she depicts herself in her acceptance speech, she promised to focus on the common man and underprivileged.

On the occasion of being installed as club president, she says that doing things for people that cannot tell you thank you is a better way of giving. It was actually a double delight for her, as the newly installed club president was also celebrating her birthday.

Among those who came to share in her day of double celebration was Abiola Dosunmu, Erelu Kuti of Lagos, who was also among the awardees at the event for being an enigma in charity causes and for her invaluable support to humanity and Rotary projects.

Receiving her award, the royal mother shared that despite our best intentions, we never know exactly where our paths will take us. She reiterated her support for the new club president whom she described as a sensational woman and trusted she will rise to the occasion because of her passion and dedication towards serving humanity and the less privileged.

Other awardees were Chief Olumide Aderiokun, Afolaji  Abolaji, Debo Adebayo and also Rotimi Bankole, who thanked the newly minted club president for her discipline and humanitarian works.

Chief Dada Chiejina, a past district governor, oversaw the handover ceremony and change of guards. He stressed that the ethos of living is to serve humanity and that he deeply believed in the ethos of service.

Chiejina advised that people should see Rotary Club as an avenue to contribute their own little quota to create a big effect in the lives of the less privileged, saying “whatever you give today will one day come back to you in manifold measures. You don’t have to be well known and wealthy before you can impact lives.”

Dr. Jide Akeredolu, another past district governor, advised the new president to be the inspiration her club members need.

“There will be trying times but you have to persevere and remain focused,” he said and implored her to rise through every challenge and most importantly, walk the talk and lead from the front.

There was also an induction of board members during the ceremony. The newly elected president introduced them and asserted that the new board members know what it takes to serve humanity in every possible way.

Anieze-Corona, who is the 15th president, stressed that the objective of Rotary Club is to encourage and foster the ideal of service, as a basis of worthy enterprise and, in particular, to encourage and foster unity.

“I never knew what it takes to give without receiving thank you until I joined this club.  These are people you might not meet in your lifetime; touching lives is our mission,” she asserted.

A fundraising session was held for 2021/2022 projects where the new president appealed to guests to support the club’s efforts in providing succour and treatment of people with diabetes, hypertension and cervical cancer.

Rotarian Leke Salami in his vote of thanks urged people to join the Rotary Club for its transparency.
