IPOB tackles dealers, consumers of  Mkpurummiri in S’East

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has bared its fangs against dealers and consumers of methamphetamine, popularly known as Mkpurummiri in the South-east region.

In a statement on Tuesday, Media and Publicity Secretary of IPOB, Emma Powerful, urged communities to help in identifying where such illicit drugs sold in their localities and notify any nearby IPOB office.

According to the statement: “We the global movement and family of the Indigenous People of Biafra notes with utter displeasure, a very ugly and disturbing trend among some youths in Biafra land who have resorted to the consumption of a destructive hard drug methamphetamine known as “Mkpurummiri”. This development is very strange and completely unacceptable.

“It is this same hard drug that renders Almajiris in the North useless, and we won’t allow this madness to creep in or fester among Biafran youths. We observe how the Department of State Services was using Mkpurummiri to create many problems among the North that metamorphosed into Alamajiri and janjaweed in the North.”

The statement further said: “We won’t allow that to happen here in the regions; we encourage every community to have departments to checkmate those selling and taking Mkpurummiri.

“IPOB hereby declare war against this nonsense. We shall go after those taking or distributing this harmful illicit drug. Henceforth, anyone found peddling, consuming or in any way involved in the distribution of this illicit drug shall be decisively dealt with.

“Biafran youths are known for their enterprising spirit and diligence. IPOB will not allow evil men and unpatriotic elements to ruin or destroy the future of our youths with Mkpurummiri.”

Trending videos online have shown that Mkpurummiri and its ravaging effects had increasingly taken hold of many youths in the South-east and if not curbed could result in consequences too grave to contemplate.

Many communities have already launched attacks on the menace, using the carrot and stick approach.

There have been scenes where consumers and dealers were publicly ‘tried’ and flogged. One such scene showed a young man stoned to death publicly for allegedly killing his mother and sister under the influence of Mkpurummiri.

Many have described the IPOB declared involvement as a welcome development because to rid the South East of Mkpurummiri, very drastic steps are required.
