Institute to seek partnership with FG in tackling power challenge

The Nigerian Institute of Physics (NIP), on Thursday said it would partner with the Federal Government to address power challenges in the country.

The NIP President, Prof. Hyacinth Aboh, made this known in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos State.

Aboh said that some of NIP members, who were experts in solar energy, would build a reservoir for solar energy in the North where there was a lot of sunshine.

According to him, government can tap into the solar energy to augment the shortage of hydro-electric power.

“We are a scientific association and Physics is involved in various things. At the moment, we are aspiring to have input toward moving the country forward.

“For example, government is talking about power. Even if government is not talking about power; we all know that we need energy.

“So our members who are into solar energy are prepared to contribute their quota into providing another source of power.

“So we intend to make our contributions and produce a solar farm in the North where we have a lot of sunshine and a reservoir that can actually be tapped by government,’’ Aboh said.

The NIP president also said that the association would pay courtesy visit to Minister of Science and Technology for a serious and robust discussion on how the ideas of the institute would be relevant to the country.

NAN reports that NIP is a scientific charity for academic and non-academic works to advance Physics education, research and application. (NAN)
