Insecurity: Women group launches peace platform to end violence

The Working Group on Women, Youth, Peace and Security in West Africa and the Sahel (WGWYPS-WAS) on Thursday launched an all-inclusive platform in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to end violence in the country.

Ambassador Clementine Okolo, the FCT 1st Co-Chair of the group, told newsmen during the launch of the platform tagged “#WorkingGroupNG4Peace” that peace and security were the bedrock for development in all societies.

She explained that the platform was an initiative of WGWYPS-WAS-Nigeria.

Okolo said that the platform was a national movement that would advocate and collaborate with government, Civil Society Organisations, security agencies, academia, international and regional organisations to make the FCT peaceful and secure for all.

She appealed to government at all levels and stakeholders to support the initiative through partnership to ensure that peace was
restored to all trouble areas in the country.

She added that “when there is peace, there will be development. Our country has been passing through turbulent moments,
characterised by violence, terrorism, electoral violence and other forms of abuse.

“We are convinced that our efforts toward building a peaceful and prosperous nation will surely yield good results, most especially since
other states that are part of the working group are working assiduously for peace and security in their respective areas.”

The 2nd FCT Co-Chair of the group, Dr Asmau Adamu, advised the Federal Government to recognise and include women and
youths in the process of building peace in the country. (NAN)
