“Dear Nigerians, brothers and sisters, today, we stand on the mark of a decades-old milestone to celebrate 61 years of progress, prosperity and passion,” he said.
“While these have benefitted a considerable proportion of our people, a still greater number of us are oppressed by poverty, violent conflict and disease. Needless to say, we have much work to do.”
Reflecting on the road the country has passed through, Ibezim expressed the desire that the efforts of Nigerians and their leaders would bear expected dividends.
“Although I am inclined to congratulate you all on this significant national day, I instead reflect thoughtfully on the losses and pains we have been through and hope that my work and the work of other steadfast national leaders yield the desired outcomes we so earnestly strive for. May this Independence Day enliven you and bring you some solace,”  he added.
