The Umuezeala Nsu Development Union (UDU), in Ehime Mbano Local Government Area of Imo State, has set up a committee to mobilise its natives and friends to donate funds and materials to reach out to the needy people in the community, especially to ameliorate the effect of the ongoing Coronavirus lockdown.
Led by its President-General, Barr. Magnus Agu, UDU had initially undertaken a successful public enlightenment campaign across the 12 villages of the town to avoid the spread of the dreaded Covid-19 to the community.
The second phase of the programme is the ongoing mobilisation of aid to their vulnerable kinsmen, who had even been struggling with survival before the Covid-19 crisis.
Tagged ‘Operation onye aghala nwanne ya’, the COVID-19 programme aims at mobilising palliatives for the vulnerable natives to cushion the strangulating pressures, emanating from the COVID-19 pandemic and lockdown in the country.
Already, donations have been pouring in from both the UDU natives at home and in the Diaspora as well as friends of the community.
The UDU Palliatives Committee, which is coordinated by Emma Nwosu, while appreciating all donors, also appealed to those yet to do so to chip in their widow’s mite towards this noble goal, as they approach D-day for the presentation of the palliative items a few days hence.
In a statement, Agu, the UDU PG said: “I strongly trust that everyone of us, home or abroad, is staying safe and observing the COVID-19 precautions.
“This pandemic will not consume any Umuezeala Nsu son or daughter, in Jesus name, ” he prayed and thanked all the donors. He also urged all Umuezeala Nsu people everywhere and their friends to write their names in gold by donating generously towards wiping away tears from the eyes of the less-privileged in Umuezeala Nsu.”
