Imo, Bayelsa, Lagos senatorial bye-elections hold Oct. 31

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has scheduled the Bayelsa Central and West Senatorial districts’ bye-elections for October 31.

Also scheduled for that date are Lagos East and Imo North Senatorial District bye-elections.

Other bye-elections scheduled to hold on the same date are that of the Nganzai State Constituency, Borno State; Bayo State Constituency, Borno State; Cross River North Senatorial District; Obudu State Constituency, Cross River State; and the Lagos East Senatorial District.

Also to hold are the Kosofe II State Constituency, Lagos State; Plateau South Senatorial District; Bakura State Constituency in Zamfara State; and the Ibaji State Constituency, Kogi State.

INEC National Commissioner and Chairman of its Information and Voter Education Committee, Festus Okoye, made the announcement in a statement issued after a meeting, in Abuja, on Tuesday.

According to Okoye, the meeting reviewed preparations for the Edo and Ondo state governorship elections, the conduct of the Nasarawa Central State Constituency election held on Saturday as well as all outstanding bye-elections.

Said he, “The commission has scheduled all the pending bye-elections for Saturday, October 31, 2020. By the harmonised timetable, the commission will give the notice of election on August 17, 2020, while political parties will conduct their primaries to nominate candidates between August 24 and September 8, 2020. Submission of forms and personal particulars of candidates will commence on September 9 and close at 6:00pm on September 13, 2020.”
