Some residents of Ilorin, Kwara capital, have expressed dissatisfaction over the lack of portable water in the state and urged the state government to provide pipe borne water across the state.
The residents who spoke with News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ilorin on Thursday lamented the hardship they went through to get water to use in their homes.
Peace Eke, an Interim Joint Matriculation Board (IJMB) student who lives on Pipeline Road said that it had become a tedious task to get water for daily use in the state capital.
“Every morning, we have to wake up early in search of water from neighbours who have boreholes in their compounds.

“Sometimes they do not even have power supply to pump water and we end up not getting water for the day.
“I was told there used to be pipe borne water supply especially in this area. But people said it had been long since they had water flowing through pipes into homes.
“It is really a serious issue and we understand that a new government is coming in. So, we ask that the new administration looks into the issue of water supply as a matter of urgency.
“Water is life and very important to living well”, she said.
Another resident, Mr Akin Olugbenga, said that any home that wanted to have water supply must have a well, but noted that such wells normally dried up during the dry season.
“During the dry season, people with wells in their homes usually have no water because they dry up.
“So only those who can afford to dig boreholes use water all year round and people like us are at their mercy.
“The government should have pity on us, water is essential, we need water running in our homes again”, he said.
Maimunah Mustapha, a resident of kilanko said “this suffering is too much. I am a mother of three young children who can’t help in fetching water.
“If not for the nearby mosque where we fetch water, only God knows how much we will be suffering to get water.
“My prayer is that this coming administration will favour us and make life easy for us especially in the areas of education, water supply and electricity supply.
“We have had enough suffering; God should show us mercy”, she said. (NAN)
