If reformation of traditional institution, cleansing of palace of idols mean being controversial, so be it – Oluwo

…Says, “God has granted my request to live up to 120 years before I go back to Him”

The First Class traditional ruler of the ancient city of Iwoland in Osun State of Nigeria, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Abdur-Rasheed Adewale Akanbi, Ilufemiloye Telu 1, has disclosed that his mission on his forefathers’ throne is to reform the traditional institution and cleanse the palace of any fetish objects that can put the king to the background to play a second fiddle and thereby jeopardise the aim of moving the town and its people forward to the Promise Land.

The vocal monarch in a chat with our correspondent in his palace weekend said, “if carrying out the mission to the letter as I was ordained to do is what a handful of people are misconstruing to mean being controversial, so be it,” saying, “I owe nobody any apology whatsoever over that.”

According to him, those tagging him as ‘controversial king’ deserve sympathy because they find reformation, positive change and a touch of modern civilization in doing things strange because they are too conservative, reminding that, “life is not static but dynamic and so, we have to move along with the trend that will guarantee political stability and economic growth of my people, my town and its environ without minding whose ox is gored in the process.”

Speaking on why he relocated the idols from the palace to the bush, the Oluwo said putting them in the palace amounts to desecration of the abode of God the Almighty, asserting that the palace is a holy house of God Who makes the Obas His vicegerent on earth for all other creatures.

Citing copiously from the Glorious Qur’an, the holy Bible and other divine scriptures, Oba Abdur-Rasheed Akanbi explained that, “God’s vicegerents are not supposed to play a second fiddle to any other lesser beings like idols,” stating that,” referring to the Obas as Alase Ekeji Orisa (Obas as deputies to idols), is abnormal, wrong and inappropriate.

Giving greater value to the idols above the monarch according to His Imperial Majesty, was like walking with the head while the legs are up, asking rhetorically, is the dog supposed to wag the tail or the tail to wag the dog?

“We are better than the idols; some of them were either carved out of wood from the forest or moulded from the clay. So, the forest is their right place and I have relocated to their proper places. We worship only one God in the palace. And anybody who wants to worship the relocated idols knows where to find them,” he submitted with a tone of finality.

When asked how long would he want God to grant him permission to live, with confidence coupled with enthusiasm, Oba Adewale Akanbi said, “I have prayed God to allow me live till I clock 120 before going back to Him,” enthusing that, “I have the confidence he has granted my prayer so I can be able to accomplish the mission of reformation and cleansing he has sent me here to do.”

Concluding, the monarch said, “without sounding immodest, I am a unique human being whose type can only come around after 500 years,” adding, “after my departure at 120 years only, another one like me should be expected after 500 years.”
