Social media users in Nigeria have come to the defence of a man who was bullied for writing the International English Language Testing System five times in a bid to migrate to Canada.

Muyiwa, who goes by the name @MrFrancesWhyte on Twitter said he had to be persistent as he wrote the exam five times consecutively to secure a student visa to enable leave Nigeria for Canada.

“Three years journey finally paid off after writing IELTS exams FIVE times…

You’re under 30, have MSc or two degrees, and some funds for WES and IELTS… Please don’t sleep on the Express Entry program, CANADA needs you, ” he said.

But his testimony didn’t sit well with savage trolls on Twitter who mocked him for failing ‘ordinary IELTS’ four times before clinching it the fifth time.

One person told him that despite his search for greener pastures in Canada, his salary in Nigeria is better than whatever he will earn overseas.

“Now that you are in Canada when you get ur first job let’s know how much u earn. I might decide to pay u that same amount or more for the next one year. I’m a Nigerian and I live and do my business here” Ayobami (@AYzero2023) mocked.

Another said that Muyiwa’s motive of leaving Nigeria is purely monetary and advised him not to soil Nigeria’s image abroad.

But Nigerians rose to Muyiwa’s defence saying that it does not matter how many times you try, as long as you do not quit, you will succeed.

Frank Edoho, a television host and presenter of the defunct Who Wants to be Millionaire, called Muyiwa’s action heroic and said it is the sheer doggedness to attempt an exam five times.

“Anybody that had to take the IELTS five times before passing it, is a person who stares at failure undaunted and grabs success at the scruff of the neck until it yields. He’s not slow, he just won’t take no for an answer and that’s heroism,” Edoho said.

Social media influencer, Dipo Awojide said it doesn’t matter the number of times but the tenacity is what is important.

“If you have to write IELTS 10 times to escape from a country where PEACEFUL and unarmed protesters were shot at and killed while demanding an end to police brutality, extortion and killings please do so,”. Avoid said.

The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) measures the language proficiency of people who want to study or work where English is used as a language of communication.
