Residents of residents of Aerodrome, a Government Reserved Area (GRA), Samonda, in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, on Wednesday, took to the streets to protest the ongoing construction of a gas plant in their neighbourhood.
The gas plant is sharing a boundary with the estate.
The residents cited a threat to their lives and property, describing the siting of the plant as ‘indiscriminate and improper’.
A representative of the protesters, who identified himself as Mr. Dayo Afolabi, said that the estate had taken different steps before the commencement of the project and had met with the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR), as well as the investor of the gas plant but all efforts proved abortive.
Afolabi, however, urged relevant authorities to intervene and suspend the ongoing projects to prevent impending disaster in the state.
