I want a tough person to take over from me, in case… – Gov. Wike

Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike of Rivers State says he would prefer someone as tough like him to take over the mantle of the state by the time he leaves office.

Governor Wike said this, on Thursday, at the commissioning ceremony of the Dualised Rumuola Flyover, in Port Harcourt, the state capital.

He said he would like a governor who would not be intimidated by the Federal Government “in case the PDP does not win at the Federal Government.”

Governor Wike also used the occasion to boast about the quality of infrastructural development he had brought to the state.

He said the Federal Government was not doing better than the state in terms of project delivery.

Governor Wike continued, “My administration is competing with federal government. They are using Julius Berger, we too use Julius Berger for our projects.

“The flyovers we have done are on federal roads but we haven’t heard anything from federal government yet.

“I told our supporters to stop replying Rivers APC. Our only reply to them is ‘Seeing is believing’.”

The governor then called on Rivers people and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to pray for a successor who will surpass his achievements.

“Pray for us to have a successor who will do better than us, someone who will put the interest of Rivers State first.

“I heard some persons are already going to native doctors and churches to have me change my mind. My mind is for Rivers State to have a governor after me, who will stand firm with the people.

“A governor who will be ready to face the heat in case the PDP doesn’t win at the federal, not someone who will abandon our people because of eternal pressure. I will never change my mind.

“I am a governor and I am the governor. Anyone who wants to be a governor must be ready to be the governor,” the governor said.
