Friends of popular gospel musician, Ebenezer Ayeni, popularly called Eben, has narrated how he was abandoned and rejected by the University College Hospital, Ibadan.

Eben was shot by an unidentified person and was rushed to J-Rapha Hospital, which referred him to UCH.

According to his friends, UCH demanded a police report before they could treat his gunshot wounds. He died two hours later.

“Ebenezer Ayeni was shot in his residence & was rushed to UCH & J-Rapha hospital in Ibadan, but he wasn’t attended to because of a Police report. He gave up after struggling with his life for more than 2hrs, Eben was to get married on the 19th of June, but Nigeria failed him,” Oluyemi Fasipe said.

J-Rapha and UCH violated the Compulsory Treatment and Care for Victims of Gunshots Act of 2017.

According to the Act, hospitals should not reject persons with gunshot wounds without a police report.

The Act also says hospital shall, upon receiving and treating persons with gunshot wounds, report the incident to the nearest police station.

Reports say Eben was not attended to and bled to death after two hours.

He was set to marry on June 19.
