How kidnappers kill LAUTECH student despite ransom payment

The event leading to the murder of Rachael Opadele, a final year student of the Department of Fine and Applied Arts in LAUTECH, who was abducted alongside a hotelier on July 29, 2022 has been revealed.

A source who narrated the ordeal to News Agency of Nigeria said that when her family members communicated with her abductors, they demanded the sum of N20M for her release.

The family source revealed that they were able to raise N5M and were lucky to get the service of an Okada man who consented to collecting the sum of N5,000 to deliver the ransom carrier to the bush where the captors were.

The Okada man was said to have carried the ransom carrier to the bush along Ogbomoso-Ilorin road around Igbon area where they connected with her abductors.

The kidnappers , the source said counted the money to be sure it was complete but
got angry when all of a sudden, they discovered that there were soldiers around the premises of LAUTECH.

In fury, according to the source, they shot Rachael Opadele, her colleague and the Okada man, but the ransom carrier sustained injuries.

Late Rachael Opadele and one other were reportedly working with Mr Olugbenga Owolabi an hotelier in Ogbomosho due to the ongoing nationwide strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, before they were abducted last Friday.

It should be recalled that Nigerian Xpress has reported that The kidnapped popular nightclub owner, in Bayelsa Tari Ajanamih, has been reportedly but his wife and father who went to deliver the ransom were also abducted.

 Ajanamih, 43, was abducted a fortnight ago at his building site along the Otiotio area of the Bayelsa State capital and a N200 million ransom placed on his head.
However, when his 38-years-old wife, Christiana, and his father, 74, went to deliver the N15 million, they were seized by the kidnappers, who insisted the family must complete the N200 million ransom  demanded, and consequently decided to keep the victim’s wife and father in their custody until the money is completed.
