Hoodlums take over Lagos community as one dies, 12 arrested

Two rival cults on Sunday engaged each other in battle at Coker-Aguda, Surulere, Lagos, leaving one person dead while police made 12 arrests.

The police identified the deceased, as an alleged serial killer, who was lynched by angry youth.

The cultists engaged one another in fierce battle with dangerous weapons, thus creating unease and apprehension among residents, who stayed indoors to avoid being caught up in the mayhem.

The clash, which was allegedly between members of the Aiye and Black Axe confraternities actually started the previous day but spilled into Sunday.

Spokesperson of the Lagos State Command, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, who confirmed the incident, however, that 12 suspects had been pulled into the police net over their alleged involvement in the bloody clash.

According to Adejobi, “The police command has arrested 12 suspects in connection with the protest/clash between some youths in Aguda area, Surulere on Sunday 24th January 2021.

“The incident left one Munero, (M), dead. Munero, who was alleged to be a serial killer in the area was lynched by irate youths in the area.”

He also confirmed the recovery of arms and ammunition from the suspects.

Speaking further, the police spokesman disclosed that peace had returned to the area.

He said: “We have restored normalcy to the area as the Commissioner of Police Lagos State, CP Hakeem Odumosu, has deployed additional men to the area under the supervision of the Area Commander Area C Surulere, ACP Fatai Tijani.

“Arms and ammunition were recovered from the suspects who are helping the police in their investigation. We will still arrest more as we continue our investigation into the matter.”
