Gunmen kill youth leader in Rivers

... Two others shot in Ogoni

A youth leader in the Rumuchuakara clan in Choba, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State has been killed by a yet-to-be identified gunmen.

This was as suspected cultists have, again, invaded Lewe community in Gokana Local Government of the state, where they shot two persons.

It was gathered the youth leader, Emmanuel Ikechukwu, who was also the leader of vigilance group in Choba community, was killed by gunmen suspected to cultists, on Wednesday night.

The Nigerian Xpress learnt that the victim was killed at his residence in the presence of his wife and children at about 10:00pm.

A source, who pleaded anonymity, disclosed that the suspects forced their way into his residence before shooting him dead.

The source said, “The gunmen forced their way into Iyke’s house around 10.00p.m and shot him in front of his wife and kids.

“People who heard the gunshots ran for safety, but we later discovered that the shooting was targeted at Iyke who died on the spot.”

It was further gathered that the victim had interrupted the activities of cultists in the area before he was killed.

Meanwhile, the Rivers State Police Command, has confirmed the incident.

The state’s Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Nnamdi Omoni, who confirmed the incident, noted that the victim was killed by yet-to-be identified individuals.

Omoni disclosed that Commissioner of Police Mustapha Dandaura, had ordered investigation into the killing, adding that police had restored normalcy in Choba.

Similarly, two persons were reportedly shot in a clash at Lewe community of Gokana Local Government Area of the state in the early hours of Thursday.

A source from the community, disclosed that, “There was heavy shooting in Lewe community today (Thursday), two persons sustained bullet injuries but survived.

“The victims are receiving treatment now, the reason for the attacks is still unclear to us, most of the villagers who are afraid have started moving out of the community to avoid being affected.”
