Group flays Oshinowo over N18.3B treasury balance claims

Says "You can't fool us all in Ogun State"

A group under the aegis Gateway Media Organization (GMO) has flayed the immediate past commissioner for finance in Ogun State, Mr. Adewale Oshinowo over claims that the Ibikunle Amosun administration left “N18.3b” in the state’s treasury before handing over to the new governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun.

Recall that Oshinowo had in a statement on Monday said the amount inherited by Abiodun’s government comprises of N5.735 billion from the Federation Account (FAAC/JAAC), N2.483 billion from the Ministries Departments and Agencies (MDAs) and N10.6 billion refunds for Pay As You Earn (PAYE).

In swift reaction, in a statement signed by its convener, Damilare Oloyede on Tuesday, the group described Oshinowo’s claim as “spurious” saying “Amosun and his aides cannot fool us all in Ogun state”.

According to GMO, “the fictitious claims only exist in the figments and delusional imaginations of the erstwhile commissioner.”

“What Oshinowo said is a glaring indictment against his principal. What do they take us for in Ogun state? Why will they sit down to come with concocted lies targeted at discrediting the current government in Ogun State? We all know the kind of person Governor Amosun was particularly in his last days in office.

If Ogun had to have close to N10b in his coffers, Amosun’s government would have paid the May salary on the 28th of May, or why was he unable to fraudulently complete the severance allowances of his aides that he started paying before the expiration of his tenure?”

“It is even more ludicrous to note that Oshinowo, an acclaimed financial expert would descend so low and resort to lies in a terrible attempt at defending his Oga’s administration. He knows full well the technicalities involved in accessing the N10.6 billion refund for Pay As You Earn (PAYE) due to Ogun State.

“How on earth would he expect Dapo Abiodun to access the PAYE funds just days after his inauguration, whereas the
government he served under had laboured to access same in three years”

“If anything, Amosun should have received the money. After all, he boasts of having a very close relationship with the presidency. Why would anyone expect the governor to count his chickens before they hatch. ” the statement read in part.

The group however cautioned the erstwhile commissioner not to distract the new government in the interest of good governance in the gateway State.
