The DOPE Divas Forum, a nongovernmental organisation has called for an end to all forms of violence against female children.

At the group’s 2021 End-of-Year and Thanksgiving event held in Ikeja, Lagos, the founder, Mrs. Mimi Rahman, said recent events have shown that women are becoming endangered as a result of domestic violence.

She lamented that many women have died from domestic violence and as such urgent actions must be taken by the government to curb the ugly incident.

She enjoined parents to educate their female children on the importance of chastity, while also train their male children to become responsible adults

“We have been  campaigning against rape and violence against women. For me, violence against women is a no. Many women are really suffering. I tell women if you are in a relationship and your man is always beating you, walk away. We want you alive, we don’t want you dead. This is what we preach,” she said.

On whether perpetrators of violence on women should be given capital punishment, Rahman answered in the affirmative, adding capital punishment should be meted on rapists.

“My advice to parents, especially mothers, is to have a close relationship with their daughters.  Be close  to them. Let them see you as a friend, someone they can talk to. Let them know they have their parents behind them. Monitor your girl child and know where they are at any particular time.

I always tell my daughters to tell me where exactly they are. I always tell them to trust themselves alone. If we are close to our children, we would be able to curb rape and other things.”

She also advised parents not to raise bullies as sons saying male children should be trained to respect women.

“For the boy child, parents should not bring them up as bullies. They should train them to treat women with respect. Teach them to have conscience, with that way we can stop having bullies. Parents should show equal love to their children.

“Government should empower women, women really need assistance financially,” she added.
