Gov. Dickson Pays Last Tribute To Late Commissioner

Bayelsa State Governor, Seriake Dickson, has paid glowing tributes to former Commissioner for Local Government Administration, late Pastor Agatha Goma, describing her death as a shock and tragedy to her family and the state. 

A press release by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Fidelis Soriwei quotes Governor Dickson as having paid the tributes on Saturday during a commendation service at her home town, Aleibiri in Ekeremor Local Government Area of the state.

Dickson noted that late Pastor Goma was exposed early to political service, as  she served as members of the old Rivers and Bayelsa state House of Assembly, as well as being the pioneer Commissioner for Education and later Local Government Administration.

Stressing that human capacity is the foundation for development, the governor expressed sadness that she died too early as her wealth of experience was much needed in the development of the state.

The Bayelsa Chief Executive also praised her contributions to the Restoration government and the state, adding that she did her best in executing the government’s public sector reforms which has immensely changes the landscape of the state.

He thanked all those who attended the final burial for defying the heavy downpour, starting with the service of songs in Port Harcourt and Yenagoa, as it is a show of solidarity with the bereaved families.

Dickson, who acknowledged that her death as left a huge vacuum, however urged all to stand by the family especially the children, prayed for the eternal repose of her soul.

He said “I was indeed shocked and saddened when the news of her death got to me, she will surely be missed. Her departure has created in her family (Goma & Waritimi), our government and the ministry where she was active before her death”

“let me thank everyone and all the people who defied the elements (rain) to grace this solemn occasion, indeed this is a show of solidarity for the Waritimi and Goma family as well as with Aleibiri community and our state”.

In a brief exhortation, the General Oversea of the Hilltop International Christian Centre, Port Harcourt, Rivers State , Reverend Chris Oarhe taking his sermon from the book Thessalonians 14 1-18, said late Pastor Agatha Gina served God with all her heart and would not only be remembered by her family but members of the church,.

He described her as a servant of God, who worked hard for the propagation of the gospel, while praying for the repose of her soul.

The commendation service witnessed intercessory prayers for the bereaved family, Aleibiri community, Governor Dickson, his family, Bayelsa State government and people of the state.

Dignitaries in attendance include, former first lady, Dame Patience Jonathan, wife of the governor, Dr. Rachael, former Deputy Governor, Chief Peremobowei Ebebi, Senator Inatimi Spiff, Hon. Tari Porri, clergy among others.
