Gov. Badaru curses irrigation, farming equipment vandals in Jigawa

Governor Muhammed Badaru Abubakar of Jigawa State went overdrive, on Wednesday, when he rained curses on those he said were stealing or vandalising irrigation farming equipment in the state.

His words, “May Allah expose anyone amongst you that vandalises irrigation barricades or metal pipe channels constructed to provide free flow of water at the Yamidi multi-billion Naira irrigation project executed by the Federal government.”

Governor Badaru said this while receiving over 3,000  hectares of cleared land yesterday at Yamidi of Auyo Local Government Area under the Hadejia valley stating that the project will by far reduce the immense economic hardship of citizens.

The governor, who presided over the handing and taking over of more than 200 hectares of farm-land undertaken by the Federal Government under the Hadejia valley, said the project initiated during the 2nd Republic was revived by President Muhammad Buhari when he re-laid the foundation of the project two years ago.

He said the project which was multi-beneficial has reached over seventy five completion and the remaining percentage would be completed before the commencement of this year`s irrigation farming.

Also speaking, Emir of Hadejia, Dr. Adamu Abubakar Maje, commended President Muhammad Buhari and Governor Muhammad Badaru Abubakar for actualising the project.

On his part, Minister of Water Resources, Engr. Suleiman Adamu, said the Federal Government had spend over N9 billion on the rehabilitation and extension of over 3,000 hectares of irrigation land at Yamidi town.

He said the project was aimed at boosting food security and economic well being of the people.
