Ghanaian court remands Nigerian trader for impregnating minor

A Ghanaian court has ordered that a Nigerian trader, Great, 22, be remanded in prison custody over allegations that he impregnated a 15-year-old girl.

According to Ghanaweb, Great had appeared before an Accra Circuit Court, charged with defilement. His plea was not taken.

The prosecution, Chief Inspector Kofi Atimbire had asked the court to remand the accused while the police conduct further investigations into the matter. The prayer was granted.

The court presided over by Mrs Rita Abrokwah-Doko, adjourned the case till Friday.

The police told the court that the complainant is a trader residing at Korle-Gonno, Accra whereas the victim is the complainant’s niece.

Prosecution said Great resides at Agbogboloshie and that the victim arrived in Accra from Kpassa in the Oti Region early 2019 to learn a trade.

It is believed that Great and the victim became involved in a romantic relationship and had been living together for the past seven months.
