Gas explosion kills man in Lagos

A gas explosion at Alafia Bus Stop, beside Atlas at Orile Iganmu rea of Lagos State, on Monday, has killed a 35-year-old man, identified as Mr. Ajibola Olaoye.

Olaoye, an artisan, was working with a wielding equipment, when a gas cylinder in the workshop with leakage, exploded.

According to the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), four adult male also sustained various degree of injuries.

A statement by LASEMA Head of Public Affair, Nosa Okunbor, said: “ According to report of investigations and eye witness accounts, the explosion was attributed to a leak in the supply of gas from  the cylinder. The explosion led to the death of the artisan utilising the welding equipment while working on a heavy duty equipment.

“Four other adult males, who sustained various degrees of injuries, were quickly taken to a nearby hospital.

“LRT, Police, Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Corps and LASG fire service are responders at the scene as the entire area have been cordoned off to prevent any secondary incident.

“The deceased was bagged by the LRT and handed over to his family in the presence of Officers of the Nigerian Police Force from Amukoko Division.”
