Ganduje names Ibrahim Aliyu as new Emir of Gaya

Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje of Kano State has announced the appointment of Ibrahim Aliyu as the new Emir of Gaya.

Aliyu is a former Ciroma of Gaya and eldest son of the late Emir of Gaya, Alhaji Abdulkadir.

The late Emir died, last Wednesday, after ill-health at the age of 91.

Aliyu’s emergence as the second Emir of Gaya followed tussles, misunderstanding, disagreements and alleged fight between the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Usman Alhaji, who is one of the kingmakers in Gaya and some top personalities from the area.

It was gathered that it took the intervention of Governor Ganduje to resolve the dispute.

Usman Alhaji, who briefed reporters said: “Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, by the power conferred on him by the Kano Emirate law 2020 as amended, has approved the appointment of Alhaji Aliyu Ibrahim as the new emir of Gaya.

“The appointment followed the recommendation by the five Gaya Emirate kingmakers after presentation of three candidates from which the governor appointed Aliyu Ibrahim Gaya as the new Emir.”

The kingmakers included the SSG, Alhaji Usman Alhaji (leader of the king makers), Wada Aliyu (Madakin Gaya), AIG Alhaji Bashir Albasu (retd) (Makaman Gaya) and Alhaji Jafar Usman (Turakin Gaya).

Speaking on behalf of the governor, the SSG said the state government found Aliyu worthy to succeed his late father among the three candidates earlier recommended by the kingmakers.

Gaya Emirate was amongst the four new emirates created by Ganduje in 2020.

Aliyu’s late father had been on the throne of Sarkin Gaya since 1990 and held several traditional positions, including district head of Kunchi and that of Minjibir.

His father was elevated to first class monarch by the Ganduje administration after the creation of Rano, Gaya, Bichi and Karaye Emirates in 2019.
