GAC convenes crucial meeting amid rumours over claim of Tinubu’s order of Obasa’s reinstatement

The Governor’s Advisory Council, GAC, of the Lagos All Progressives Congress, APC, Lagos, will today hold an emergency and crucial meeting at the Lagos House, Marina, on the ongoing crisis rocking the Lagos House of Assembly following the removal of the former speaker Mudasiru Obasa.

The meeting is coming on the heels of rumour spreading that President Bola Tinubu, a former governor of the state has ordered the lawmakers who removed the speaker to reinstate him.

The rumour which has been published by some online media (not The Nigerian Xpress) claims the president has asked the GAC and House members to ensure Obasa return as the Speaker.

Though a contrary report also emerged claiming the President is not in support of Obasa return and that the former speaker may be suspended from the House any moment as result of the petition he wrote to the Department of State Security, DSS which led to the detention of some of the lawmakers last week and their release, the meeting by GAC is to clarify the position of the President.

It is recalled a similar meeting was held two weeks ago by GAC at the same venue over developments at the Lagos State House of Assembly but members kept mute after the meeting.

As part of addressing the assembly issue, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu will also hold the weekly Monday Executive Council meeting where measures to be taken will be discussed to forestall breaking down of law and order in the House.

Since his removal as Speaker by 32 out of 40 members of the Assembly on January 13, 2025, Obasa has not attended the three plenary held by the House led by his erstwhile deputy, Mojisola Lasbat Meranda, who is now the substantive Speaker.

His removal divided the ranks of GAC with Senator Anthony Adefuye and Muraina Taiwo both members of the council disagreeing over the process that led to the removal while Musiliu Obanikoro another member faulted the duo for their ‘careless’ statement.
