FUOYE Senate passes Vote of Confidence on Fasina

...Threatens legal action against spoilers, as students disassociate themselves from false allegations against VC

The Senate of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) has passed a Vote of Confidence on the administration of the Vice-Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Abayomi Sunday Fasina, for what she described as exemplary leadership which has produced great and admirable achievement during his few months in office.

This was just as the students of the University has disassociated themselves from a statement by the National Association of Universities Students (NAUS), led by one Ibrahim Muhammed Lawal, which accused the VC of misconduct.

The development was revealed in a statement by the Special Adviser on Media Matters to the VC, Mr. Wole Balogun on Thursday.

Balogun’s statement reads in part: “Distinguished Senate of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) during her 44th statutory meeting held at the Faculty of Science auditorium on June 16, 2021, passes a Vote of Confidence in support of the People’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Abayomi Sunday Fasina, popularly called ‘God wins’, against various false news being perpetrated by unscrupulous elements through the uncensored social media.

“The motion to pass a Vote of Confidence on the floor of the Senate was moved by Prof. Olajide Oladele, a highly respected Professor and chairman, Committee of Deans, FUOYE. He started by requesting the VC, who is the Chairman of the Senate, to temporarily step aside and allow the DVC, Academics, Prof. Olusola Ojo, to take over, while the Senate decides on the raging false news perpetrated on the social media to paint the VC and the management in bad light.

“Afterwards, Prof. Oladele continued by listing all the positive achievement and impact made by the Fasina-led administration since he took over from the esthwhile VC, Prof. Kayode Soremekun on February 11, 2021.

“Some of these achievements include promotion of over 20 academic staff, whose promotion had been delayed for years for various reasons most of which was political, to professorial cadre and full professorship, purchase of fully packaged tractor and other equipment to boost agricultural revolution in FUOYE, provision of amenities such as electricity and pipe-borne water for departments which hitherto, had none, establishment of a printing press for FUOYE, livestock farming, establishment of FUOYE bakery and canteen, courtesy of the newly created FUOYE Ventures, establishment of FUOYE Institute of Part-Time Studies which is currently admitting qualified students and which is meant to boost the Internally Generated Revenue, (IGR) of the University.

“Other achievements included the provision of a 50-seater shuttle bus for subsidized transport system for the staff, majority of whom come from Ado-Ekiti on daily basis to Oye-Ekiti, provision of a brand new Sienna car for the Students’ Union Government, (SUG), ably led by Comrade Alabi Johnson as well prompt attention to and implementation of demands by the students’ body, implementation of several projects that would boost unprecedentedly, learning and teaching exercises on the twin campuses of Oye-Ekiti and Ikole-Ekiti, i.e  approval of on-going projects for building of more hostels on the campuses, approval of SUG secretariat complex, approval of the take -off of FUOYE College of Medicine in October, 2021,  establishing of training for Enterprenurial skills for FUOYE students so they could be both employable and self-reliant after graduation, and payment of some arrears of hazard allowance of staff members, among others.

And mostly the general peace and rest of mind on campus which was missing in the last administration.

” The chairman,  Commitee of Deans, who reiterated how happy he feels with the Fasina-led Administration, emphasised that there was now academic freedom of professors and other scholars in FUOYE. He further commended the VC on the transparency of the just concluded admission exercise and due privileges given to the staff of the University and their wards through the introduction of admission quota for biological children.

“The final leg of his motion was a request that if his motion was adopted and ratified by Senate, the resolution should be so communicated to the Governing Council of the University.

“The motion was seconded by Barrister Wasiu Oyedokun while the stand-in Chairman of the Senate, Prof. Ojo  requested those in support to say ye. All the members of the Senate, which is the highest decision making body of the Institution,  comprising all Professors, Deans of Faculties, Heads of Departments, Directors and Heads of Academic related Units in thunderous voice, uniamously shouted ye in support.

“In conclusion,  Prof. Ojo instructed the Secretariat to communicate this decision of the Senate to the Governing Council and strongly advise all rumour mongers to desist from spreading or propagating any false news about the Fasina-led Administration and Federal University Oye-Ekiti in general.

“He further emphasised that any individual or organization that engages in any form of false representation of the institution, will be made to face the wrath of the Law via legal action by the University.

“In another development, Balogun disclosed further that the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti Students’ Union Government, (FUOYESU), has disassociated itself from the false allegations leveled by a faceless Abuja group, called National Association of Universities Students (NAUS), led by one Ibrahim Muhammed Lawal.

A statement made available to the Media office of the VC, and signed by FUOYESU President, Mr. Johnson Alabi, condemned Lawal and his statement, saying: ‘Our attention has been drawn to an allegation levied against our Vice Chancellor. We are the direct result of whatever decisions the management makes and so far under the stellar leadership of the Vice Chancellor, everyone and his brother has seen the progress the university has encountered. We’ll not sit back and watch online comrades make false claims on issues they have no first contact with. We strongly condemn this very egregious and laughable allegation by these unscrupulous fellows”.

While urging the public to dismiss Lawal’s as falsehood and worthless, Alabi said: “The Students’ welfare has been the number one priority since Prof. Fasina has assumed office stay of the Vice chancellor in office and FUOYE students have been able to enjoy a lot of benefits. “
