The Ogun State Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) on Monday advised motorists to always slow down while approaching bridges in order to prevent crashes.

Mr. Clement Oladele, the Ogun Sector Commander of FRSC, gave the advice in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ota, Ogun State.

Oladele spoke against the backdrop of an accident on Sunday, where a Lexus Jeep vehicle plunged into a river on the Ijebu-Ode/Benin Expressway, killing a woman and injuring her daughter.

NAN reports that the incident which occurred around 2.30 p. m. was caused by speeding.

“We implore motorists to slow down while approaching bridges as the bridges might have weakened or have gaps between them that could lead to mishap, ’’ he said.

Oladele also urged motorists to ensure they were in good state of mind before driving to avoid running into emergency.

He warned motorists to be patient as well as desist from acts that would distract them while driving.

According to him, motorists should adhere to average speed limit while approaching bridges.

Oladele, however, condoled with the family of the deceased woman and prayed that the Lord will grant them the fortitude to bear the loss. (NAN)
