Foundation to build 10 houses for widows in Oraifite

The Emeka Offor Foundation on Saturday pledged to build 10 bungalows for 10 selected widows in Oraifite, Ekwusigo Local Government Area of Anambra State, beginning from November this year.

Mrs. Adaora, the wife of the founder of the foundation, Sir Emeka Offor, disclosed this during the yearly celebration of “Afia Oru”- a festival marking the end of the farming season- in Oraifite community.

“The ten beneficiaries will be the poorest of the poor to be selected across the eight primary widow cooperative groups established by the foundation.

” The first phase of the yearly philanthropic gesture by the foundation will start from November, 2019″, she said.

The News Agency if Nigeria (NAN) reports that the foundation distributed 50kg bag of rice each to 2800 widows from the community.

The founder of the foundation and a renown philanthropist said the gesture was to associate with and support the widows.

“The distribution of the 2,800 bags of rice today is a routine done four times a year; that is, during Christmas, Easter , New Year celebrations and Afia Oru Festival.

“We are doing this not to get the beneficiaries to do anything in return, but to make them happy when others are celebrating”, he said.

Offor urged the widows to imbibe sisterly love and always encourage their children to be positive in their conduct and avoid vices.

The founder who recalled that the foundation sponsored 20 of the widows for SME training in India disclosed that he had already concluded plans to organise workshop to train them on medium enterprises operations.

“Before now, you have been trained on small scale business enterprises, but we have concluded arrangements to teach you something higher”, he said.

Mr. Anthony Obi, Co-ordinator of the foundation told newsmen that the foundation had disbursed over N80 million in empowerment projects in the area. (NAN)
