Female palm oil dealer robbed, killed by customers

A woman, simply identified as Evelyn Ebere, formerly resident in Sagamu area of Ogun State, has been cut in her prime after she was attacked and murdered by two men, Okobamoyo Tosin, 30, and Ogungbemi Gbenga, 30.

Ebere, a palm oil dealer, had reportedly engaged the services of the suspects, who drove a Toyota Carina car, with Registration Number AGD 107 GU with her, to Ire-Ekiti, in Ekiti State.

Shortly after they had embarked on the journey, the suspects reportedly attacked the deceased, robbing her of her N400,000. Concerned that the deceased might mention them, the suspects allegedly killed the woman.

The suspects were arrested after a compliant of a missing person was lodged at the Ogun State Police Command Headquarters on March 10.

Briefed about the compliant, the state’s Commissioner of Police, CP Kenneth Ebrimson, ordered the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, led by Shobiyi Oluwatosin, a Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP), to unravel the mystery behind Ebere’s sudden disappearance.

The directive paid off as the suspects were arrested and led operatives to a bush along Sagamu-Benin expressway, where the body of the late Ebere was found.

Confirming the arrest of the suspect, Ogun Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Abimbola Oyeyemi said,  “Their arrest followed the sudden disappearance of the victim on the  March 10,  2020 as a result of which she was reported missing.

“The case was transferred to Anti-Kidnapping Unit with a matching order from the Commissioner of Police to unravel the mystery behind the sudden disappearance of the woman.

“In compliance with the CP’s directive, the officer in charge the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, Shobiyi Oluwatosin, swung into action with his men, they embarked on intelligence and technical based investigation which led to the arrest of the two suspects in different locations.

“On interrogation, Ogunbemi Gbenga informed the detectives that he is a driver of a Toyota Carina car with registration number AGD 107 GU with which he carried the victim on chater to Ire-Ekiti where she intended to buy twenty six kegs of palm oil.

“He stated further that he was accompanied by his friend Olibayomo Tosin on the journey.

“While on the road, they both decided to rob the woman of the money she wanted to use in purchasing the palm oil, consequent upon which they drove her into the bush along Sagamu-Benin Expressway, where they dispossessed her of N400,000.

“ Since the deceased knew them very well been her regular customer, they decided to kill her and dumped her corpse in the bush.

“The remains of the victim have been recovered in the bush along Sagamu-Benin expressway and have been deposited at the general hospital morgue for autopsy. ”

The Commissioner of Police, who praised the Anti-Kidnapping team for their painstaking and intelligence-based investigation, promptly ordered that the suspects be arraigned before a court of competent jurisdiction as soon as investigation is concluded.

CP Ebrimson also warned criminals to stay clear of Ogun State as there would not be any hiding place for them.
