Fayemi to youngsters: You are not too young to make a difference

Kehinde Adewole, Ado Ekiti

Governor Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti State has urged Nigerian youths desiring greatness in life to urgently make hay while the sun shines by preparing for their desired goals early enough.

The governor said a serious minded youth or teenager does not need peer pressure from friends or the social media to affirm his or her self.

He urged the teenagers and youths to opt for a life of sober reflection and profuse reading, as well as understudying great men as mentors in the path they choose in life.

Governor Fayemi was speaking to the students of the Olashore International School, Iloko-Ijesha, Osun State, on Saturday, where he delivered a lecture commemorating the school’s 25th anniversary.

Governor Fayemi, who was represented by his wife, Erelu Bisi Fayemi, at the event, left the students  with three life lessons and a charge which they can use in life.

“The first lesson is that they should never take any opportunities that they have for granted, any opportunities they are given should be used wisely.

“So the opportunity to be at a great school like Olashore is something that they should never take for granted.

“The second lesson is that everything that they want to become in life requires preparation. And so the young ones need to prepare themselves from a young age.”

The governor cited an example of when he was growing up and  used to read any and everything, he used to listen to the news all the time, even before he ever had the opportunity of travelling out of the country or to explore other part of the world.

The governor also charged them not to see themselves as too young to make a difference. He urged them to seize the moments and do whatever they can to make an impact on their society.

The introduction of the 25th year anniversary book of the school was done by Nigerian Ambassador to Hungary, Ambassador Eniola Ajayi.

Present at the event were the Ooni of Ife, HRM Oba Enitan Oguwusi, members of the Board of Governors, dignitaries, Principals, Alumni and the children of the late monarch; Prince Abimbola Olashore, Prince Olalekan Olashore, Prince Kehinde Olashore, the school Principal, Mr. Derek Smith, parents and the students of the school.
