Fayemi appoints man whose son sneaked into Ekiti COVID-19 Ambassador

Governor Kayode Fayemi of Ekit State has appointed one Mr. Femi Adeoye, the man who made headlines, on Wednesday, after reporting his son who sneaked into the state from Lagos State, as COVID19 Ambassador in Ekiti State and Nigeria, at large.

Mr. Adeoye is to work with the COVID-19 Task Force in the state.

A video which showed Femi Adeoye, a retired road safety officer, asking his son to get tested for Coronavirus before gaining access to his house had trended on social media.

Adeoye’s son was said to have defied his father’s instruction to remain in Lagos State until the pandemic was over by traveling from Lagos to Ekiti State despite the lockdown in those states.

Upon arriving Ekiti, Adeoye insisted that his son must get tested for COVID-19 or isolate himself elsewhere for 14 days before he is allowed into the house.

Governor Fayemi hosted Mr. Femi Adeoye at the Ekiti State Government House, on Thursday, after initially commending his patriotism and promptly announced him COVID-19 Ambassador.

The Ekiti State Government had commended Adeoye, “for refusing to cover-up his son’s travel history and for denying him access into the house without confirming his COVID-19 status.

“Mr Adeoye epitomises the Ekiti ethos of selflessness, which places greater premium on the collective good of the society above personal and emotional considerations. This is the core of the Values Orientation policy of the Fayemi-led Administration.”

The statement had also ordered the suspension of a security official attached to the Covid-19 task force in the state for making a mockery of the situation while recording the viral video.

The governor, in a tweet, wrote, “Mr. Adeoye will help to propagate the message as a member of the COVID-19 Task Force @Ekiti_COVID19 in the State.”
