Ex-internationals hold soccer clinic for Ambode

By George Aluo
Campos Square in Lagos would tomorrow (Friday) come alive with a soccer clinic being put together by the nation’s ex-internationals in honor of Lagos state governor, Akinwumi Ambode.
The soccer clinic is the first in the series of activities lined up by The Match International, organizers of the “thank you” game being put together in honor of the out-going Lagos State governor, tagged Africa X1 versus Naija Legends at the Onikan Stadium on March 15.
Spokesman for The Match International, Waidi Akanni said yesterday that all is set for the soccer clinic to be handled by renowned coaches led by former Super Eagles coach, Samson Siasia.
“We have assembled some of the best coaches in the country to be part of the clinic. Samson Siasia would lead the coaches. We are expecting kids (male and female) between the age bracket of 13-17 to be part of the two- day clinic. It is our little way of giving back to the society and we are saying a big thank you to the corporate bodies that have identified with the project. The duo of Access Bank and Sifax are lending their support,” Akanni said.
On the Africa X1 versus Naija Legends game proper, Akanni said the plans are on course, even as he added that The Match International is in touch with the African legends that have been invited.
Former world footballer of the year, Liberia President, George Weah has since confirmed he would be in Lagos for the event alongside Ivorian star, Didier Drogba.
