Ex-Gov. Dickson celebrates World Literacy Day with his children

Immediate past  governor of Bayelsa State, Chief Henry Seriake Dickson, celebrated this year’s World Literacy Day, reading books with his children, on Tuesday.

Former Governor Dickson said in a Facebook post that he took advantage of the stay-at-home compelled by the Coronavirus pandemic to take pleasure in reading with his children and teaching them the importance of reading.

He expressed concern that the flawed educational systems coupled with the effects of the pandemic had generated higher disadvantage and increased concern for teeming youths.

“This is why it is of uttermost importance that in our different capacities, we embody World Literacy Day 2020 as an avenue to reach out and focus on ensuring that youths and educators alike are protected throughout the pandemic and measures of reconciliation post-pandemic are developed.

“Throughout my career, one passion that I have developed and has been a great contributor to my success is reading.

“I believe that there is no greater good you can do than to educate the human mind because If there is one legacy we should leave behind, it should be the legacy of education, education, and more education.”

While wishing everyone happy World Literacy Day, the former governor admonished all to “pick up a book and read, loan it to others, and if you can make more impact, do so.”
