Enugu Rerun: Voters beat INEC official over pre-filled result sheets

Voters in Enugu State, on Saturday, beat an official of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to a pulp for allegedly coming with pre-filled result sheets to a polling unit.

Sequel to the ruling of Appeal Court, which cancelled the election in some polling units over the non-inclusion of the logo of the All Progressives Congress in the Form EC8A, the electoral umpire was conducting the re-run election in the constituency.

It was gathered that though the  INEC officials came late in many polling units for the elections, some arrived without results or pre-filled results, particularly where polling the units have a great number of voters.

The Presiding Officer at Igogoro, Ozzi Ward 2 Unit 004, who identified himself as Mr. Ronald Ugwudani from Igbo-Etiti Council area,  was thoroughly beaten up after he was discovered to be in possession of ore-filled result sheets before the voting commenced.

Following reports that several other polling units have no result sheets, angry voters demanded that Ugwundani show them the result sheets.

He had lied to the angry voters, saying his SPO was coming with it, only to claim when he failed to convince the voters, who pounced on him. He brought out the result sheets from his bag, claiming that they were given to him at the local government by INEC.

Ugwudani was overheard in a video, saying: “I told them that the SPO woild bring it. So, they forced me to search my bag. I didn’t know that the result sheet is inside my bag. I showed them the result sheet and they wanted to kill me.”
