A pro-democracy and human rights advocate, Comrade Adebayo Oyenekan, has urged Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to remain even more committed and more focused in his determination to move the state to the next level of world standard despite the recent wanton destruction visited on the state during the peaceful protest against Police brutality.

Oyenekan, who is the Convener of the Congress of Progressive Youth (CPY), in a statement in Lagos Monday said it was imperative to encourage Governor Sanwo-Olu to throw the sad occurrence behind him and brace up for more good governance along with rebuilding the damages the state has needlessly suffered from the hands of a few unpatriotic elements in the society.

The concerned youthful activist also charged all Nigerians to work towards strengthening the chord that binds the country together, warning that, allowing the recent unfortunate event to severe the chord of unity would not augur well for the generality of the people asserting that, there is strength in unity and togetherness.

According to him, the existing handshake across the Niger and Benue should be maintained and made more warmly for the purpose of cementing the unity of the country the more, stressing the need for harmony and peaceful co-existence in the country.

The activist and public commentator seized the opportunity to take a critical look at the shooting at the Lekki axis of Lagos where several peaceful youth protesters were reportedly gunned down by military uniform wearing gun men, declaring the incident as sad, wicked and dastardly.

He, therefore, tasked the government to investigate the incident with a view to bringing the perpetrators of the sad incident to book and compensating the victims’ families, reminding that, peaceful demonstrating is a lawful rights of the citizenry as clearly stipulated in the 1999 constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended).

Oyenekan, therefore, prayed for the repose of the souls of the departed just as he also prayed God to give the victims’ families the fortitude to bear their losses, stressing that, the labour of the departed patriotic ones should not be in vain.
