Feminist Coalition, the umbrella body under which the #EndSARS protests were organised and funded, said it raised over N148 million during the nationwide protests and said it has stopped accepting donations.

According to the group which was founded in July this year to fight for gender equality in Nigeria, part of the donations were used for legal aid and medical bills for those who were arrested or injured during the protests.

The group summarized its expenses to include N20 million for medical responses for #EndSARS protesters, N15 million for Legal Aid Network for victims of police brutality; N40 million in aids for victims of police brutality and their families, N5 million for a memorial for those who died during the protests; and N6 million for #EndSARS Mental Health project.

The Coalition made news worldwide when it announced that it had raised millions of naira within days when the protests began in Nigeria.

Nigeria’s payment gateway, Flutterwave, through which donations were made to the group was blocked by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) from further receiving funds on behalf of the movement, forcing the Coalition to start raising funds through Cryptocurrency.

Twitter founder, Jack Dorsey, was among those who donated and encouraged others to do the same to the Coalition in support of #EndSARS protest.

Many people including, Senior Pastor of Daystar Christian Centre, Sam Adeyemi, commended the accountability of the group and said their flat leadership structure was largely responsible for the success of the protests nationwide.
