Election materials intact in Edo, for distribution Thursday – REC

All sensitive materials delivered to Edo for the conduct of the postponed Presidential and National Assembly elections on February 16 are intact at Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) in Benin.

Mr Emmanuel Alex-Hart, the Edo Resident Electoral Commissioner, said this in Benin on Wednesday during an interactive session with newsmen.

He said that the commission would start distributing the sensitive materials by 6.30 a.m. on Thursday, February  21.

‘‘Yesterday, I led all political parties, security personnel and other stakeholders involved in the conduct of the elections to inspect the materials at CBN.

I can confirm that all the materials are intact and complete.

No material went out of CBN to any local government. We were still sorting the materials when the news of postponement of the elections came.

So, the materials are complete and are still with the CBN,’’ he said.

Alex-Hart also said that, ‘‘this morning we received materials from Akure and we are also expecting more from Asaba today.’’

NAN recalls that INEC postponed the Presidential and National Assembly elections from February 16 to February  23.

The commission also shifted the Governorship, State Houses of Assembly and FCT Area Councils’ elections from March 2 to March 9. (NAN)
