The five years dominance of Uche Okere at the annual El- Marino ‘ Alukimba’ table tennis tournament came to an end last Saturday when Chris Anazia was crowned the new champion after defeating Adetokumbo Modupe in two straight sets of 11-2, 11-8 to emerge winner of the 2019 championship that is in its eighth edition.
Also Ambrose Aimiator  recorded a 2-1 victory of 11-5, 7-11, 11-5 against Moses Idaho to win the third place match in an energy soaking encounter decided at Alfred Gardens Recreation Center, Oregun, Ikeja.
Winner of the tournament, while expressing joy at his victory, told The Nigerian Xpress Sports that hard work gave him victory as he has been training hard for the tournament, noting that he will train harder to defend the title next year.
“I will attribute my victory to hard work because after missing out of the finals last year,  I intensified my  training which made it possible for me to be victorious.
“This victory will challenge me to be focused on my training to be able to defend the title next year because I know a lot of my colleagues will be mapping out strategies on how to dethrone me,” said Anazia who has previously won the championship on two occasions.
