Ekwueme tasks Ihedioha on Heartland FC

By George Aluo
Poland based former Super Eagles midfielder, Ifeanyi Ekwueme has called on new Imo state governor, Emeka Ihedioha to ensure Heartland bounces back to the top of Nigerian club football.
Ekwueme in a chat with The Nigerian Xpress Sports noted that Heartland has been struggling in the last couple of seasons, even as he thanked God the club was not relegated at the end of the just concluded abridged league.
“I m happy Heartland didn’t go down. Now that they succeeded in remaining at the top flight the new government must ensure they return to the top of Nigerian football. The club should be entrusted in the hands of those who would make it a real professional outfit that is commercially viable. I want to see a club that would not be waiting for government subventions to prosecute its campaign. There should be a total turn around of things. Heartland should attract foreign investors and partners who would make it less dependent on government for funds,” Ekwueme said.
Ekwueme said he would this summer organize series of soccer programs aimed at developing football in Imo state.
“I m organizing a competition that would involve Imo All Stars and my Academy would also be busy with a talent hunt program aimed at catching them young from secondary schools. We intend to use the new Okigwe Stadium for the grassroots competition,” Ekwueme said.
