The management of  Ikole Local Government Council said on Friday that it had rebuilt the dilapidated abattoir in the area at the cost of N400,000.

The New Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the facility, the only one in the area, had been out of use in the last eight years.

The Coordinating Director of the local government council, Mr Olatubosun Fasanmi, told the News Agency of Nigeria(NAN) in Ikole -Ekiti that the facility was deserted due to its dilapidated and unhygienic state.

He said the local government rebuilt the abattoir to save residents  from the outbreak of cholera and other infectious diseases.

” To the glory of God, we have rebuilt the abattoir which had collapsed due to heavy rainfall.

” The old structure being used by the butchers was very dirty and in terms of hygiene, it was not good for our people, so we decided to put the place in good shape.

” The butchers have started using the newly built abattoir and the environment is currently decent as well as  suitable to kill, sell and buy cow meat,” he said.

Fasanmi, however, appealed to the butchers to make judicious use of the building and ensure high level of hygiene.(NAN)
