Ebonyi records second COVID-19 case

Ebonyi State, on Wednesday, recorded its second case of Coronavirus barely one week after the first index case involving a  commercial bus driver from Ondo State was arrested and tested in Ebonyi, as his result was positive.

The development, however, has caused tension and panic in the State.

Confirming the case, the state’s Commissioner for Health, Dr. Dan Umezuruike, said that it involved a 27-year-old man arrested, on Saturday night, by police officers at Ishieke junction, in Ebonyi State, on his way from Asaba, Delta State.

The commissioner said that the man was returning with his seven-month pregnant wife and his house-help but the bus carrying them dropped them at the Ishieke Junction and because of the curfew, they could not found another means of proceeding to their village before the policemen arrested them.

“Ebonyi state has recorded another case of COVID-19. It involves a 27 year old man returning from Asaba, Delta State. He was coming with his seven month pregnant wife and his house-help The bus carrying them dropped at isheke junction and because of the curfew, they could not proceed on their journey before they encountered some policemen who arrested them and took them to the stadium which is our standard. While at the stadium, we segregated them according to the states they were coming from.

“So we conducted test on them. The man tested positive. The wife’s result is still inconclusive while the house help tested negative, Umezuruike said.

He said that the whereabouts of the police officers that arrested the patient were unknown likewise the driver that conveyed them from Asaba to Abakaliki.

The commissioner also said that the patient has been taken to the isolation center for medical attention, adding that he has only exhibited intermittent headache.

Meanwhile, in a short broadcast, Eboni state Governor, Engr. David Umahi has assured the residents of the State not to panic as he was on top of the situation.
