Ebonyi govt. to expend N7.8b in renovation of schools in 10 months – Gov. Umahi

Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi State has restated that a total of N7.8 billion would be expended by the government in the renovation /equipping of schools across the 13 local government councils between August this year and May 2020.

Governor Umahi made the assertion at the Executive Council Chambers Government House Abakaliki, on Wednesday, on the occasion of the of the inauguration of the Chairman and members of the State Universal Basic Education Board (UBEB).

He disclosed that within the next 30 days all the existing on-going projects relating to UBEB would be completed.

He said that in no distant time a comprehensive inspection of dilapidated schools would commence across the three senatorial zones of the state.

The governor insisted that a Comprehensive re-auditing of all workers in the state would be carried out in the next one week.

His words, “The Head of Service (HOS) is hereby directed to issue out forms to to all Civil Servants, the Heads of the various Units, Agencies and Departments should fill the forms.”

He said that at the end of the exercise the Government would give waiver to local governments to commence the engagement of teachers in the councils.

The State Chief Executive announced that the government has earmarked N500 million for the payment of Gratuity and Severance Allowance to Civil Servants starting from 2016-2019.

Governor Umahi reiterated that the government has resolved to redefine its Education system insisting that promotion of workers would be based on Vacancies.

“If any Civil Servants is talking about Promotion, no promotion again until there is Vacancies, we will identify Bill of Quantity of the identified schools, we will deploy E-learning in our Education.”

The governor reiterated that the appointment of the Board members would take effect on 1st August 2019, and charged them to key into the vision of the government .

Earlier in his acceptance speech on behalf of the Board members, the Chairman Chief Hyacinth Ikpor assured of the commitment of the members to deliver on their mandate.

“With the synergy among the members, we will be able to deliver high quality education.

“The Board came at a time when we are able to declare State of Emergency on Out of School Children”
