Ebonyi earmarks N1bn for Teachers training/youths empowerment programme

Ebonyi State Commissioner for Education, Dr. Onyebuchi Chima has restated that the State Government has earmarked the sum of N500 million for the training of teachers in public schools across the state.

In a similar vein, the sum of N500 million has been set aside for its  Empowerment programmes involving youths and widows.

Briefing newsmen at a joint media parley with the Commissioner for Information/ Orientation Barrister Uchena Orji  on Tuesday on the outcome of the State Executive Council meeting, Dr. Chima said that the initiative was to remove the state from the stigma of an educationally disadvantaged state in the south east geo_political  zone of the country.

He disclosed that the State Government has declared emergency in the educational sector.

“N500 million has been approved for training of teachers , using school curriculum to train teachers on subject areas after which examination would be organised for them”

“This training is packaged to remove the stigma on Ebonyi as an educationally disadvantaged state.

The Commissioner maintained that the State Government has declared war on development of education in the state.

Contributing, the Commissioner for Information/Orientation Barrister Uchena Orji, said that the sum of N500 million earmarked for youths/ widows empowerment was geared towards reducing the poverty indices of the people.

“Ebonyi State Government is determined to ensure that it takes the lead in various empowerment schemes among other states in the country”

“From 2015 till date, Ebonyi State is leading in empowerment programmes, security is one of the Human Empowerment, the state has low record on  insecurity “

Dr. Orji said that the Executive Council deliberated on the draft law titled “Amendment Law 004 of 2015 of Local Government and Development Center”

He said that law would ensure that 242 liasion Officers will be appointed in the 171 wards across the state with each ward producing a woman as a liasion Officer.

“This confirms the policy of the state government to ensure Affirmative Action on women , this is another empowerment programme of the people,” he reiterated .
