Dyegh declares for speaker of 9th House of Reps

Dyegh, who represents Gboko/Tarka Federal Constituency of Benue, made his intention known at a news conference on Wednesday in Abuja.

He said that he was offering his talent and time and ready to make sacrifices for the good of every Nigerian.

The aspirant said that his decision to join the race was based on unyielding faith in a united and prosperous Nigeria.

He said this ambition was also a response to the clarion call by constituents and members-elect  across party lines and other Nigerians.

Dyegh said if elected speaker, he would ensure the amendment of the Constitution to extend the tenure of lawmakers from four to six years.

He said he would deepen the oversight function processes of the house and ensure value for money and budget performance by Ministry Department and Agencies (MDAs)

The legislator also said that if elected speaker, he would ensure openness in the financial operations of the National Assembly.

He urged members elect to join him to transform the legislature which he described as the bastion of democracy.

He said that his contest was a Pan-Nigerian project devoid of selfish agenda and that every Nigerian that believed in justice, equity and fairness was part of the movement.

The lawmaker said that he was a party man and that he had 100 per cent loyalty to the party and its decisions.

He, however, said that the North-Central felt strongly to contest for the office and that there was room for negotiations.

According to Dyegh, it will only be fair if the position of the Speaker is given to the North-Central having taken the Senate President to the North-East.

He said that the North Central has not produced a speaker or deputy speaker since 1999.

News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Dyegh would be returning to the house for the third term in the 9th House of Reps.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) had however, zoned the office of the Speaker in the 9th House of Representatives  to the South-West  and would present Rep. Femi Gbajabiamila (APC-Lagos) for the office. (NAN)
