Dutse residents protest‎ against power outage

Dozens of protesters, on Wednesday, besieged the premises of thee Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO)‎ in Dutse protesting against outrageous billings.

The protesters, who marched through the state capital, were mostly from Taku‎r quarters, mobile Bae and Danmasara.

The crowd, carrying placards with various inscriptions such as, ‘KEDCO are fraudsters’, ‘Enough is Enough against this injustice’ and ‘Pay us Back our Money’,‎ stormed the KEDCO regional office demanding explanations to the alleged ‘injustices’ meted to the people.

They accused the electricity company of excessive billing while they claimed that only about one to two hours of electricity was being enjoyed by the residents.

They claimed that every month, residents of the affected areas, were billed between N8,000 to N12,000 even when they do not get the electricity.

One of the leaders who spoke to journalists, Mr. Yusuf Shuaibu said, “There is no point ‎giving us one hour of electricity in two to three days if they would force us to pay so much at the end of each month”, he stated.

Yusuf, who is also amongst the conveners of the protest, insisted that KEDCO should, as a matter of urgency, rectify the excessive billings system, otherwise “We don’t want their electricity anymore”, he said.

While addressing the protesters, the Regional Manager in charge of KEDCO Dutse, Mr. Sa‎idu Sambo, told them that the problem in the affected areas would soon be addressed and that other parts of the state are also facing similar electricity challenges.
