Driver remanded in prison for allegedly running over FRSC official on duty

An Ojo Magistrate Court, in Ojo Local Government Area of Lagos State, on Monday, remanded one Bernard Ogechi, a traffic offender, in prison, for allegedly hitting and climbing the leg of an FRSC Marshal with his vehicle.

It was gathered that the affected FRSC official was on duty controlling traffic on  November 30, at Abule Osun axis of Lagos-Badagry Expressway.

Presiding Magistrate, Mr. A. A. Adesanya, after listening to the two parties and watching the video evidence provided by the corps, granted the offender bail with the sum of N350, 000 and two sureties one of which must be a blood relation and the other a Clergy or a Baale.

He is also to show evidence of three year tax clearance.

However, the Defendant was unable to meet his bail condition and was subsequently remanded at the Kirikiri Medium Security Correctional Centre, in Apapa and the adjourned to 12 February, 2020, for further hearing.

The Sector Commander FRSC Lagos, CC Hyginus Omeje, however, advised motorists to desist from assaulting traffic officials stating that anyone who is caught in such act will face the full wrath of the law.

He also stressed on the need to always obey traffic rules and regulations during the festive period and beyond.
