Fifty-Seven newly elected chairmen of Local Government Areas and Local Council Development Areas on Lagos State were, on Tuesday, sworn in by Lagos State governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

The Chairmen were sworn in along with their Vice at the Lagos House, Alausa, Ikeja.

Speaking at the ceremony, Governor Sanwo-Olu applauded
residents in Lagos State for keeping faith with All Progressives Congress, APC, by voting all the candidates and ensuring the party recorded a resounding victory in last Saturday’s elections.

He charged the newly sworn-in chairmen to embark on projects and play the roles that would impact on people at the grassroots.

The Governor said residents were expecting so much from them to deliver the real dividends of democracy by ensuring their welfare programmes touch virtually all in their community, promising that his administration would support the chairmen to ensure every nook and cranny of the state feels their impacts.

He also urged them to shun partisan politics by working with all party members in their local governments regardless of political interest.

The Commissioner for Local Government and Community Affairs, Dr Wale Ahmed, tasked the chairmen to sustain or even surpass the tempo of performance of previous administrations in their respective council areas.

Ahmed said: “We expect that the scope of delivery by this crop of honourable chairmen and vice-chairmen, would cover all sectors and sub-sectors, in tune with the THEMES Agenda of our dear Governor, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu.

“You are the third-tier of government and the closest to the grassroots. You have emerged only by the will and mandate of the electorates, it behoves on you to ensure that the electorates enjoy the dividends that true democracy brings.”

Moving a vote of assurance on behalf of the newly sworn-in chairmen, the Chairman, Igbogbo-Bayeiku Local Council Development Area, Sesan Daini, thanked the present administration for its supports, pledging that all the chairmen would not disappoint Lagosians and would key into the THEMES agenda of the Lagos State Government.

Present at the event were the Deputy Governor, Obafemi Hamzat, Chairman of APC in Lagos State, Tunde Balogun, party stalwarts among other stakeholders
