Don’t dabble into Abia politics, restrict your governance to Rivers, Abia PDP elders tell Gov. Wike

Governor Nyesom Wike has been warned to limit his governance to Rivers State and face his duties as a governor and not dabble into party politics in Abia State.

The warning was handed down to the fiery Rivers State governor by Stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ikwuano Local Government Area of Abia State.

The stakeholders was reacting, on Tuesday, in reaction to Governor Wike’s accusation that the National Organising Secretary of PDP, Col. Austin Akobundu (rtd), denied a Federal House Member from Abia State, Hon. Sam Onuigbo from producing the Exco of his Ward, a development that made him (Onuigbo) to decamp to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The stakeholders, led by Rear Admiral Ralph Osondu (rtd), said Governor Wike was not properly informed on how the last PDP congresses were conducted in Abia State in 2018.

Osondu, flanked by other PDP Stakeholders in Ikwuano locality, informed that Hon. Onuigbo, who decamped to the APC, left because of his personal ambition and not because of the Ward Congress conducted in the LGA, “as there was no contention in Ward Congress in Ikwuano LGA during the period”.

“To this premise, Wike grossly misfired. We, the PDP stakeholders in Ikwuano, wish to state categorically that Governor Wike was not properly informed on the conduct of the last PDP Ward Congresses in Abia State.

“From his statement, he appeared to be confused on which Ward Col Akobundu (Rtd) prevented a Federal House Member from producing his Ward Exco. To show how uninformed he was, Gov. Wike could not ascertain whether the Federal House Member was still in the PDP or not”, the stakeholders said.

According to them, the Ward Congress of PDP in Ikwuano council and indeed in Abia State was held according to the PDP’s Constitution, as a result of which, they stressed, it was adjudged free, fair, hitch-free and peaceful.

Adm. Osondu continued, “The Ward Congress of PDP in Ikwuano LGA and indeed in Abia State was held according to the PDP’s Constitution; hence its hitch-free and peaceful outcome. Surprisingly, at the LGA level, Hon Onuigbo held a parallel Congress which was rejected by the party.

“He subsequently dragged the Party to Court and lost. He never appealed the judgment of the Honourable Justice C O Onyeabo. Meanwhile, all efforts to make him see the reasons during that period failed. All we heard later was that he had decamped to APC at the floor of the House of Representatives.

“On the basis of the above, His Excellency Gov. Nysom Wike is hereby invited to note that Ikwuano LGA conducted its last PDP Congresses in an orderly manner without external interference either from Col Akobundu or any other political leader in Abia State.

“We, therefore, strongly advise His Excellency, Governor Nyesom Wike to desist from interfering in the political affairs of Ikwuano LGA in particular and Abia State in general.

“For the fact that Abia State has a sitting Governor who is the Leader of the party in the state, Governor Wike is therefore advised to restrict himself to the political affairs of Rivers State and stop dabbling into issues he is not properly informed of in other states”, he said.

Contributing, a former Transition Chairman of Ikwuano council, Chief Henry Nwoha, maintained that the federal lawmaker did not decamp from PDP because of the party’s Congress, but because “he wanted to impose the Ikwuano Local Government leadership on the rest of the people”.
